Soaring Eagle Lodge is going to the Amazon September 21 - 28, 2025!

We had such an incredible trip in 2023 we just have to go back!
Once again, we are partnering up with Untamed Angling’s “Marie” for this epic trip, deep into the Amazon.

Marie Rio de Gigantes

The Rio Marié is proven to hold the most remarkable size of all peacock bass fisheries currently known to the angling world. The entire 500 miles of the number one peacock bass fishery in the world is managed as a catch and release only fishery and is one of the largest preserved fisheries in South America.

The Untamed Amazon is the very first deluxe vessel, specially designed for the Marié project, in the entire Amazon. Utilizing solar power for partial electricity use, it introduces a new concept in boat design that redefines the current fishing vessel standards. Every space on the boat was thoughtfully planned to promote a unique and remarkable experience.

The main floor has 8 comfortable suites with 18 sq. meters each, for 16 passengers in total. Each suite raises the bar in space and amenities for a fishing vessel. It accommodates two people in super single beds. Additionally, they have a private bathroom with a hot water shower, outside sink cabinet, air conditioning, and good space for clothing storage.

The direct float plane access to the highly mobile and shallow drafting vessel, the Untamed Amazon, puts anglers on water that has seen very little angler pressure. Our strategy is to fish new water every day and after each week, reposition the vessel up or down river. Quick and easy access to the prized fishing grounds in a versatile mothership allows us complete access to the entire fishery. When pursuing the smartest fish in the jungle, the peacock bass, utilizing every advantage makes the difference.

The Rio Marié is unique to Brazil, with more than 500 miles of exclusive access to the largest catch and release river in a region where rivers are often shared by half a dozen fishing operations. This river system within the Indigenous Territory is expansive and, most importantly, completely protected from its headwaters to the mouth. This territory encompasses a vast range of untouched water, boasting a healthy population of giant peacock bass.

The waters of the Rio Marié and its tributaries are scientifically proven to house some of the largest peacock bass in the entire Amazon basin. This fishery holds world record caliber fish and is a fantastic destination for anglers that are looking to break records, and set their own.

After collecting data over the years, the Rio Marié has demonstrated an average size of speckled peacock bass at 10 pounds, with regular captures of 15-pound fish as well. And if that’s not good enough, there are more fish weighing over 20 pounds than anywhere else in the entire Amazon Negro Basin, or the world, for that matter.

The largest and most powerful peacock bass species is the Cichla Temensis. These fish can reach up to 30 pounds, and they are found in entire Negro River Basin – the black tannin water river system. According to some accounts by riverside dwellers of the Negro River Basin, this species may reach, and rarely exceed, the 15 kilo limit.

The current Rio Marié record fish are: Weight: 28.5 lbs for weight (2018), Length: 92 cm. (2022).

Untamed Amazon’s guests will be delighted by wonderful cuisine, a blend of Amazonian ingredients with modern techniques. To accompany our meals, we offer fine wines, drinks, uniquely Brazilian caipirinhas and cold beers. Satellite internet connection, and daily laundry are provided for all our guests. In addition, we offer a complete fly shop with all you need for a fishing week with us.
